To book your place for the Great Tommy Sleep Over head to the Ancient and Sacred Trees website. You can bring your own tent or hammock, or sleep in the giant tipi. (You can even sleep in your van if you can’t manage the cold).

(It’s been a while since we sent out our last newsletter. Honestly we have been so busy we’ve had a hard job keeping up with everything! There is a Huge Amount we have to Share with you as we successfully completed our first year as a CIC, Now we’ve got off to a flying start for our second year too with massive thanks to all our supporters!)

Where Is Wild Spirit Woods CIC Located?

For those of you that don’t know, Wild Spirit Woods CIC is up on Congleton Edge between Biddulph and Congleton on the edge of the Peak District commanding a fantastic view over the Cheshire Plain.

We have our Mad March Hare Hunt celebrating Spring Equinox and Easter on 21/22 March and then the Dragons are flying back in on April 18/19.

i hope you enjoy this film I made of our recent conservation success at the woods! We have made a massive dent on the Balsam! It’s nothing short of a triumph. Never did I think we would be able to get so much bashed!

Come check out what we did this weekend! (12/13 July) Balsam is a non-native plant and disastrous for our wildlife. There is still some left to do so if you want to chip in bring some work gloves.

Massive thanks to Pete, Gary, Helen, Lexi, Karen, Ellen, Danni, Mike, Jan, Billy, Jules for Balsam Bashing! Thank you also to Ellen and Danni for the sandwiches and homemade cake, yum!

This is what conservation and community is all about. Having fun in aid of a good cause saving our environment for our wild friends!

Meanwhile I’m delighted to share that our free Wood Spirit Open Weekend is supported by Soul Food Crafts who has kindly provided some lovely hand carved pieces for our trail. Andy is available to commission and has some pieces for sale too. Do check out his website and follow him on Facebook.

Also, this coming weekend we have our free Wagtails Meet Up – bring your fur babies to meet and greet with water and treats waiting for them. Small kids play area and a free art activity too. Bake sale, plant and gift stalls. We have activities to book too:

· Wood Spirit Community Campfire with drum circle on Saturday evening with drinks n nibbles included . We have percussion instruments to share or you are really welcome to bring your own musical instrument.

· On Sunday morning 11 am we have a Forest Bathing session £6 for an hour

· 4pm Woodland Sound Bath celebrating the Holly Tree with all the wonderful sounds of nature all around.

My goodness just where has the time gone?!

Here’s a little Midsummer magic for you .. orchids!

Meanwhile if you’ve been past the site you will notice conservation news is up on the gate. Big thanks to Whim Ales for the beer barrel so we can provide water for passing dogs and wildlife!

Forgive me this letter is rather short and to the point, I will write a longer one next time with nature befriending tips, conservation news, tree inspirations etc.

In the meantime I just wanted to let you know …

The trail will have lots of little fairy houses dotted about. There’s free wand making too. Come and see the orchids, buy a gift or support the bake sale. We’ve a small plant and garden stall too. The big tipi will shelter us whatever the weather and with space to play.

The sound bath is 3pm on Sunday, that and the forest bathing are bookable via website also as is the campfire with veggie n meat hotdogs and music included in the price, details as per website. Funds to go to the woods.

You will be supported by Simon and Amanda who both have very many years of experience in Special Educational Needs. Amanda is a fully qualified artist, forest guide and special needs teacher and is late diagnosed AuDHD. She has a grown up transgender kiddo who is also autistic. Simon has a school age autistic son with learning needs. He has many years as a photographer, mentor and musician as well as being a forest guide.’ Dates coming soon.

Oh what lovely weather we’re having and everything is blooming! The beautiful ancient Hawthorns are fat with flower buds about to burst. They should be in all their glory for our Maytime Open Weekend.

Meanwhile the daffodils in the meadow have been glorious, and now, oh the Bluebells!

Wild Spirit Woods Conservation News

Did you know the Spanish Bluebell can cross-pollinate with our beautiful native Bluebell? Do you know the difference between them? (Come see us over the Maytime Merry Meet weekend if you’d like to find out). Our aim is to eventually get rid of hybrids. We also want to collect seeds from our lovely natives and spread them further on the land.

We are now publishing conservation updates. These will be fastened to the gatepost on site for you to read if you’re passing that way.

Wild Spirit Woods Maytime Open Weekend

Maytime Open Weekend Itinerary is as follows:

Both Days for Free

· Take a walk around and see how the woods change with the seasons

· Family and friends hang out

· Kids play (this includes sensory play toys for neurodivergent kids)

· Wagtails meet up – free treats for your fur babies

We also have:

· Plant and gift stalls plus a bake sale

Such a lovely place to come and get a drink and eat cake!

Saturday – 11am – 3pm

• Free - Gardening, conservation and site maintenance day. The Big Balsam Bash! Come and find out with this really is enemy number one!

• Free - Seed planting activity. Pot up some seeds to take away

• Free – Adults/kids Make a Green Man/Woman mask, you can bring it to our evening campfire event

• 7pm - Maytime Merry Meet Beartown Community Campfire

Sunday – 11am - 4.00 pm

• Morning 11.00am – forest bathing £6 or members Free/£2/£4/£5

• Lunchtime 12.00pm – 2.00pm

• Afternoon 2.00pm - Woodland Soul Sound Bath or members

  A sound bath under the trees celebrating Hawthorn with refreshments and time to spend communing with our tree friends afterwards.

Beartown Community Campfire - Maytime Merry Meet

Here is what is included:

We are delighted to welcome musician Andy Wild and his pizza oven! He is a wonderful handpan player, so you can eat your woodfired pizza and enjoy the music.

Food and Drink: Wood Fired Margarita pizzas, and all hot and cold drinks including teas, coffee, squash, sparkling water are ALL included in your ticket price! (You are welcome to bring extra toppings and other food and drink items.)

You will have the chance to play our collection of drums, rattles and other instruments, and you are welcome to bring your own instruments too.

You will also have a chance to join in and have a go dancing around our Maypole! (I’ve got the pole and the ribbons. Ive just got to get it up!)

AND if you arrive during the day you can make a mask for the evening for FREE at our Green Man mask making workshop for children and adults. Who knows, maybe we will have a prize for the best.

Well it looks like its’ going to be another lovely weekend for our next open weekend! (Sorry this is a bit late notice!)

Meanwhile our March one went really well welcoming new friends, doing up some garden items and appreciating the first signs of spring…

This is being sent out later than intended. Come and say hello. You’re welcome to bring your fur babies though on leads as we have possible ground nesting birds in the meadow.

The good weather seems set to continue and what’s nicer than tea and cake in the woods? The daffodils are out and you can see the trees starting to wake up. Come and join us. :-)

Both Days - Plant stall and bring n buy seed swap, gift stall, bake sale come and get yourself a pice of cake and a drink! All in aid of the woods.

• Dragon spotting trail and who knows, maybe a small sweet treat at the end. Because who doesn’t love a dragon? (Here is my Dragon Facebook group if you’d like to join. All dragons in Britain welcome. We find a very surprising amount in churches).

• Meet Sparky-the-Dragon (who is gentle & chill) and his friend Squawky-The-Parrot (who is bouncy & full of mischief)

• Waggy Welcome - bring your furry friends. Free drinks and biscuits for members and their furry friends.

• Volunteers welcome for gardening and conservation activities, weeding and sowing seeds mainly. Refreshments will be laid on for volunteers.

• Plants, gifts and cake for sale

Sunday 13th April

12pm – 3.30pm

• You can just drop in and take a walk around.

• Forest Bathing mindfulness befriending nature - 12pm

• Tree Songs Soul Full Sound Bath - Willow A sound journey in honour of the gentle Willow Tree 2.30 pm

Dear Wild Spirited Ones

Hello and happy first day of Spring! Welcome to the third edition of our Wild Spirit Woods CIC newsletter.

Well it might have seemed quiet but there’s things been going on in the background. We’ve been out collecting donations of items for the site. We’ve drawn up a calendar for the year including open weekends with free and low cost activities. We’ve been on site too, as well as making new connections.

March Open Weekend At Wild Spirit Woods!

We will be at the woods so come and say hello and see the first signs of spring.

Saturday 29^th March

1pm – 3.30pm for our early spring open Saturday.

• You can just drop in and take a walk around.

• Waggy Welcome - bring your furry friends. Free drinks and biscuits for members and their furry friends.

• Take part in gardening and conservation activities. We will be weeding and sowing seeds mainly. Refreshments will be laid on for volunteers.

Sunday 30th March

1pm – 3.30pm for our early spring open Sunday.

• You can just drop in and take a walk around.

• Waggy Welcome - bring your furry friends. Free drinks and biscuits for members and their furry friends.

• There’s also a Crafty Garden Workshop (£5) too.

Our open weekends will be held throughout the year with a variety of activities on offer.

The Crafty Garden Workshop

Make an eco-friendly garden ornament. Also learn skills you can use at home to reuse and upcycle old garden furniture and ornaments while helping us create nice things for the site.

Sunday 30th March 2025 1pm - 3.30pm - Crafty Garden Workshop £5 including refreshments.

Learn new skills. Transform trash into treasure. Take home a garden decoration made with natural materials.

· Reuse and repurpose old scrap and garden items

· Help us upcycle a collection of furniture and garden ornaments for the site

· Learn skills you can use at home on your own items

· Make a garden ornament using eco-friendly natural materials

· Hot drinks and homemade cake provided

· Fire in the tipi to keep us warm

Wild Spirit Woods Community Interest Company

I’m delighted to tell you that we are now a community interest company! Known as Wild Spirit Woods CIC. The directors work as volunteers. Cic’s work for social good and any assets are protected as they would be in a charity. The newly formed volunteer run company will be managing the woods from now. Still the same friendly faces but in a more official setting. You can donate or join the AST paid membership scheme to support our green and growing communiTree here…

Ancient and Sacred Trees

AST stands for Ancient and Sacred Trees. It is a community project and it has been celebrating, connecting, planting and protecting for 10 years. Check out the website here www.ancientandsacredtrees.org. The cic events are listed here along with dedicated pages. You can find a film about Dawn (who bequeathed the land)and was a member of AST and the woods here too.

We will be at the woods from 12 on Saturday the 11th January getting ready for the wassail. It’s our first volunteer day for anyone that wants to join in be it tidying the tipi, making a brew or moving saplings etc.

If you don’t fancy volunteering please do pop in and say hello!

From 2pm 12th January 2025: Madcap mayhem as we march around the meadow blessing the trees. Hot soup and crusty roll in the tipi afterwards and a chat about how this relates to Bears and Bear Town! Blast the post Christmas blues away with lots of bells! All for just £5 all funds to the woods as always.

Dear Friends

Welcome to our new Wild Spirit Woods newsletter and featiring our supporter Ancient and Sacred Trees!

First of all thank you so much to those of you who came to our open weekend at our base in Wild Spirit Woods in September, it really meant a lot and we loved meeting you. My goodness where has the time gone? We hope you will enjoy reading this and find a little inspiration for your day. :-)

Come and see us! We're going to be at the woods sorting out the Sun Lodge so we have a cosy snug space for winter.

You can:

• Just come and chat and share a brew - bring a mug

• Bring your fur baby and have a wag walk (because our dogs wag their tails when they're happy)

• Help us hang tarpaulins, move stuff and clean out the space (bring your hammer, brushes, cloths)

• Make the brews and hand out the biscuits

• Take photos of us at work for social media

Next Saturday 19th October Gathering In The Green - Elder ( 6.30pm for 7pm prompt start)

An evening of gratitude and blessing. Celebrating the Elder Tree and Samhain/Halloween with a tea ceremony, story telling, sound bath and afterwards jacket potatoes baked on the fire. (Bring your favourite toppings and cup/plate/cutlery.) Something to lie on and snuggy blanket to keep warm (We do have chairs if you can't lie down). Bring lanterns, oh and torches essential! For those of you that came to the open weekend you know that we’re setting up a cic. There has been a lot going on behind the scenes and we have been wrestling with paperwork to get the CIC - Community Interest Company registered, finally we think we are on the home stretch and we will keep you updated.

Ancient and Sacred Trees World Wide CommuniTree Highlights

If there is one thing we talk about a lot it is developing a relationship with the land and our wild friends where we live, and this is a really beautiful example of that.

October is a season of smells. So here is a Forest Bathing tip: Step outside, close your eyes and see what smells you can pick up on. Examples might include smoke from someone burning garden brushwood, Poplar Trees, damp earth, rain …

Phew, I think this lot is enough to be getting on with for now.
